Hersheypark Christmas Candylane - Hershey, PA

What Christmas Events to Expect: A Christmas Amusement Park, Christmas Light Display Highlights: Live Reindeer on Loan from Santa, the Festive Atmosphere, the Rides, the Food, Drinks and Chocolate

Hersheypark Christmas Candylane has been making seasons bright for almost 30 years in Pennsylvania. These days there are a lot of amusement parks decorating for Christmas and opening for the holiday season, but Hersheypark is one of the pioneers of the Christmas amusement park. It truly is a Christmas wonderland. Everywhere you look, the park is gorgeous. Beyond the aesthetic, there are rides to keep you entertained. Granted, the roller coasters aren't open for fear of frostbite and other safety reasons, but there are enough smaller rides to keep things exciting and make it more than walking through a light display. You can also stop by and say hi to Santa's reindeer and see if they will pass a message to him for you. To top it all off, the food and beverages in the park are perfect for the season. Being Hershey, hot chocolate is an obvious one, but they also offer other uniquely seasonal foods and beverages such as hot apple cider smoothies (a thicker hot cider) and kettle corn, which you can watch being made outside in a giant, hot kettle. You can also meet Hershey characters as they stroll through the park see Christmas shows and listen to Christmas music as you stroll around. Don't forget to pick up some chocolate before you leave.

Christmas Village in Philadelphia - Philadelphia, PA

What Christmas Events to Expect: A German Christmas Market Highlight: Käthe Wohlfahrt German Christmas Treasures, Unique European & Russian Christmas Decorations and Gifts, European Food, Desserts and Mulled Wine

These German Christmas Markets, or, as they are known in Germany, Christkindlmarkt, have existed for centuries in Germany and other European countries, but are a relatively new Christmas tradition in the United States. It is only in the past few years that these Christmas markets have begun springing up in America, with the first being the "Christkindlmarket" in Chicago in 1995. The Philadelphia one only began a few years ago, but has quickly become one of the most recognized in the country. Ironically, it is the only German Christmas Market we have found that has "Village" instead of "Market" or "Markt" in its name, but it has retained "Christmas" in its name, despite political controversy, which at Ovation for Christmas we applaud. This one is modeled specifically after the Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany.

Besides having the opportunity to purchase amazing German Christmas decorations and treasures, visitors can also watch glassblowing demonstrations, but their live Christmas tree, visit Santa's house, watch Christmas performances, and see the lighting of Philadelphia's Christmas tree as well as other themed events in the Village. If you have ever wanted to try authentic German food or traditional Christmas desserts like stollen, lebkuchen, spekulatius, frosted nuts, or Gluhwine (mulled wine), you can also indulge in that in the Christmas Village. (O.k., you got us, mulled wine isn't a dessert).

Byers Choice Christmas Museum - Chalfont, PA

What Christmas Events to Expect: A Christmas Museum, German Christmas Market Highlight: The Observation Deck Where You Can Watch the Byers Choice Carolers Being Made

Chalfont, PA is the home of the classic, highly collectible Byers Choice Caroler figurines that grace so many households around the holidays. They also make what they call "Kindle" figurines, which are various other characters, such as Santa Claus, elves, bakers, etc. In the Christmas museum, their famous Caroler and Kindle figurines are arranged in engaging and heartwarming vignettes, which can give you great ideas on how to decorate with them in your own home for Christmas. The Christmas Museum also contains an extensive créche collection, with over 200 nativity scenes. It makes sense that since the Byers Choice Caroler figurines harken back to Victorian times, the museum has a life-sized Dickensian, Victorian London street scene you can stroll along and Victorian outfits you and your family can try on, and take a memorable Christmas card photo that looks like your family is in the pages of "A Christmas Carol." You can then stroll up to the observation deck and observe all of the artisans hand-crafting, hand-painting and hand dressing the Byers Choice Caroler figurines. That's right, these Christmas collectibles are not only made in the U.S.A., they are hand-crafted in Pennsylvania.

You can also find a number of wonderful Christmas gifts at their gift shop. From the beginning of November through the end of December they have a German Christmas Market in their gift shop where you can find all kinds of international foods and uniques gifts for the holidays. Besides the German Christmas Market, Byers Choice Christmas Museum hosts all kinds of events http://www.byerschoice.com/our-company/events/.
